Jesus in The Desert

God, often I went too far,
often I want too much,
often I reach too high,
and I would fall so deep.

God, eliminate my hunger of  "more".
Let me taste Your bread,
Your words, your offerings.
Break me and divide me.

God, eliminate my thirst of  "bigger".
Let me taste from Your chalice
Your words, Your generosity.
Pour me.

God, if I have done it
then the devil would be gone.
Let your angels come
to keep me.

A poem by Berthe van Soest; translated by Fons Bogaartz, OSC; translated again by me.
Sorry if there are some mistakes in the translations, this is the first time I translate a poem.
